This is my first desert landscape. It is a desolate, forlorn place inhabited only by a machine and the great Black-Butted Bat. The machine may provide bus tickets, or direction to lost desert travelers. The Black-Butted Bat is a rare sight, though native to this region. It is not a threat to humans, as it flies about continuously and never touches land.

Rolfe always stays at the Cactus Tree Motel when travelling out west for business. A fit man who likes his shoes stiff, he never travels without his shoe tree and a watery diet cola. During a digital rendezvous with his internet lover Blondeen, the two discuss her dreams of opening a wig shop in her hometown of French Lick, Indiana. They’ve yet to meet in person, but Rolfe has agreed to sign on as an early investor.
